What are Scalable Workouts?

A former United States Army Captain, Christopher Jeremiah of Gillette, WY, holds a bachelor of science in political science from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and is currently pursuing a nursing degree at Northwest College. Christopher Jeremiah founded Thunder Basin CrossFit, the largest CrossFit gym in Gillette, WY, and helped grow the successful company before selling it in 2014.

CrossFit is beneficial for all fitness levels because it involves scalable workouts; in other words, each exercise can be adapted and modified for different levels of experience and ability. Based on functional movements such as jumping, running, and rowing, CrossFit workouts aim for a balance of challenge and safety. Beginners can benefit from accessible basic movements, while adding weight or resistance bands or performing movements on an incline can increase intensity levels for more experienced CrossFitters. The goal of scalable workouts is to provide a challenge that lets each participant grow and progress, while respecting limitations and avoiding overstraining or injury.

Conditions Associated with Premature Birth

Christopher Jeremiah is a Gillette, WY, entrepreneur who leveraged leadership skills gained as a Captain in the US Army to establish a successful CrossFit studio. Though he sold the business, the Gillette, WY, studio continues to flourish under a new name. Reflecting inspiration gained from the extended effort to save the life of his prematurely born son, Christopher Jeremiah is presently working toward a nursing degree.

Births are classified as premature when they occur more than three weeks before the expected due date. Most premature babies are considered “late preterm,” which means they are born after 34 to 36 weeks of pregnancy. However, all premature babies require specialized physician and nurse attention at a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Signs of prematurity include fine hair spread over much of the body and a disproportionately large head accompanied by an overall small body size. In addition, lack of body fat may result in a low body temperature at delivery time and less rounded physical features. Other potential symptoms include impaired reflexes related to swallowing and sucking, as well as difficulty breathing.
